Dianna,
I want you to know I miss you big time and I am so sorry you are in this very difficult situation. You and your family are on my mind constantly. I have been praying hard and I have had my family and friends praying for you too.
Here is some news that will brighten your day.
1. Mark as you know has been so awesome keeping us update. He is our rock at school.
2. Mark, Cindy and I several times a day checking in with each other on your famiily status.
3. We had our RHS vs South football game yesterday. Houston Leaton was able to drive his camaro to the game. He was in a wheele chair tailgating with the students, which he just loved. Tate as you know if Houston’s best friend. Tate’s mother did the field goal kick at half time with Houston right there cheering her on, along with the whole student body. It was a site to see.
4. We did the “Challenge Night union” this week. I have to say we had a hard time doing it without you but we thought it was what you would want. The kids were great. They miss you so much! We did a few physical activities, watch the power point, ate some snacks, reviewed challenge night and laugh a good laugh.
5. I have Courtney Gray hooked up with Amber Bloecher on a daily basis. She is doing fine. She misses you too.
6. Steph called Marla about your family pictures. She is keeping them on the website until you say the word. Please know that Marla sends her love to you too!

John and Dianna,
God has placed Proverbs 3:5&6 on my heart–”Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight”. On our own, we will certainly never understand why God allowed this terriable accident to happen. BUT, we can put our trust in the Lord, knowing that He is in control and holds the Master Plan. Our hearts are heavy, but we know God loves and cares for each of us. How I wish we could be there and hold you in our arms, but how much more important and comforting it is to know that Jesus is holding all of you in His precious arms and will never leave you. Our prayers are continuous and you are constantly in our thoughts. We love you all so very much and wish we could do something more to ease your burden.

I talked to John just 2 days before his accident and we were going to “have lunch” when he was available. I work at KCP&L and was his main contact for years here at Hawthorn, he was always my bright and witty person with never a bad word or compaint. I will miss him greatly, I considered him a true friend. My sister-in-law, Julie Curry, works for his brother Bernie, and knows you and your daughters. John will be greatly missed by me and all the folks at KCP&L. Thank-you for sharing his life with us. Tim Greene
I am so very sorry. I can’t even put into words how sad Barry and I. Dianna, your tribute to John was so perfect. I can only hope that someday we can have someone be able to say things like that about our lives. John was truly remarkable. I respected him so much for keeping racing a fun hobby and always putting more importants things in life first. Racin Boys 810 Radio called Barry Saturday a.m. to have him talk about John. Barry stayed up almost all night thinking of what to say and wanted to say the right things. I think John would have been happy. Barry enjoyed racing with John so much. They kept it fun and high five’d when they came back in. Those are some of Barry’s favorite racing memories to fall back for the rest of his lfe. Thank you for sharing John with the racing family. Dianna-
I was so saddened to read of John’s passing this morning. I have thought of you constantly since I heard about the accident and want you to know that I will continue to keep you, the girls and the entire Heffernon family in my thoughts and prayers. My mom and Jim also send their sympathies – they too have been reading the blog daily and have kept you in their thoughts and prayers. You may not know this, but I lost my dad in a tragic car accident 15 years ago, so my mom and I have been through a similar experience. We may never know God’s plan for us, but know that He has a way of healing the pain.
With much love and sympathy-
Lori Tinkler

Although I have not seen John much in recent years since I spend most of my time at the Iatan Station, but I remember him foundly from his service calls at the Hawthorn Station. I always knew I was in good hands when John came to take care of our HVAC problems. We always talked about his race car and his family when ever he came to help us out. I will miss him and so will the rest of the world. To his family, my thoughts and prayers are with you in this time.

To Diana, Sara Margaret, Mackenzie, and the whole Heffernon family. We both feel so sad about the news about John. We have been checking the updates each day, and saying a prayer for all of you. I just did not know what to say, and I still don’t. I love your family – it has been such a joy to know all of you. And I know what a family man John was, and that you have those 27 years to draw upon. And I know that your faith will bring you through this. I can honestly say that it has been an honor to have known all of you these past years, and I will not forget all the good memories and notes he left me. I know you have great strength in your family and close friends, but I just wanted to let you know that there are a lot of us out here who will miss that “John Heffernon” smile. God Bless you all
Janice and Chuck O’Connor

Dianna, my prayers are for you and your girls during this time of sorrow. I have had a child join the Loed and know of some of your sorrow.
We were so honored and blessed to know him.
Dianna,
Randy and I are very sorry to hear of your loss. I have been kept up to date since the accident through Mark Fries. I think of you often and with great fondness. I know that you have a great circle of support with both your family and your “school family”. Lean on them even as you try to remain strong.
Natalie and Randy Hammerbacher

Dianna,
My mom, dad, sister, and I send our sympathies. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Whenever I budget money for a week or a year, I think of stories you told us in Business classes about John’s budgeting acumen and his bill paying system. I must admit that I try to follow his same system of putting bills into envelopes and setting aside money for each payment.
May God bless you and the girls,
